The Basic Tee and Jewelry

One of my favorite go-to looks is pairing a basic (usually white) tee with jeans (or a long skirt) and tons of accessories. In college, I often did this with my dad’s undershirts, paired with jeans, wrist fulls of bracelets, big earrings, and sandals. Now that I’m getting older, and becoming less more sophisticated as time goes on, I no longer borrow my dad’s tees, but now I borrow The Boss’s; the shoes and accessories remain the same. I have a few white tees of my own too, which I love and wear, so if you’re not comfortable knowing that you’re wearing something made for a man, you could always grab an oversized woman’s tee, which is equally as chic, though always way more expensive. For those of you who think this look is a little on the sloppy side, you’d be surprised to know that it is actually quite versatile. Pair a basic white tee with straight-leg pants, and you’re ready for a weekend lunch date. Slip a blazer over your tee, add a low heel, and you’ve got an outfit for work. Ready for this one? Pull on a satin skirt, cocktail ring, and sexy slingbacks, and bam! you’re off to dinner.
All in a a day’s work for the basic (unassuming) little ole tee.

Well, that used to be my favorite look pre-hijab, but ever since I started wearing hijab, I find simple doesn’t look the same without skin anymore, in fact they often look like some kind of uniform! My first summer ever wearing hijab I thought I could simply add a pretty blush scarf to my fave white top/blue jeans combo and some heels and be as before. Then I walked into our very tony club in Cairo and noticed that a lot of other people were wearing the same exact look- yes, I was wearing the nanny outfit! That goes for a lot of looks that used to by my faves before. I’ll try upping the accessories as you suggest and see how it looks!
One questions: in one photo you took of yourself in the mirror you are wearing a lovely white top with a deep red scarf. What color pants do you wear with that? When I wear jeans with it, I look too 4th of July, if you know what I mean!
BTW great blog! Slice of lemon is my cup of tea!
Best,
Lucy
Loving the blazer. They can do so much for an outfit and this one packs a punch! Be amazing with a scarf the color of that dress and wide leg jeans or a denim skirt. And then a plain shirt for under the blazer.
Loving the blog.
