Go Nautical

Wearing nautical prints and styles doesn’t have to mean tiny jumpers, capris and tanks. If you’re looking to incorporate a nautical vibe to your outfit without showing 36 inches of leg, invest in a few basic pieces, and go from there. The most common nautical style incorporates stripes; red, white and blue color combinations always look seaworthy, even if you don’t actually have plans to hit the water, and gold accessories complement this color pattern — they’re the most traditional. You can have fun with your accessories by adding an anchor necklace, or chunky bracelets, but be sure to find pieces that have enough whimsy to play up your outfit, but not so much that they take away from the classic look. A wide leg jean in a dark wash makes for an easy staple, which you can build around, as do sailor and carpenter pants. Adding a boat-neck tee, or a tailored blazer, along with a light-weight hijab in a neutral color (think: camel) or in a brighter hue (think: yellow) are good options. You can’t go wrong with open-toe sandals, but if you really want to add flare, go ahead and dig up your old Keds. We know you were thinking it, and no, we won’t judge you.
