Ruffled Cardigans

I love cardigans.
I think I love them more than any other piece of clothing ever invented in the history of the world.
And I also love ruffles.
They are so dainty, and so feminine, and they transcend age. Put ruffles on a 5-year-old girl, and she’s adorable — put them on her 58- year-old grandmother, and she’ll look pristine.

Cardigans are the one “safe piece” that I know I can always put on to feel like my outfit is complete, and modest in appearance. Not that I really consider myself to be a modest person, because I don’t. I mean, sure, I follow the Islamic dress code, and I’m particular about how I carry myself outside of my house, but I equate modesty to like, being shy, and sort of quiet, which I’m not. At all. Although I do get uncomfortably shy when I know lots of people are looking at me, which just translates to being awkward in conversation, but that’s totally different.

But there’s a difference between me saying I’m not “modest” and someone else saying it. It’s like a “your mama” joke. Other people can’t make them. It’s like, the law of the Universe. So the other day, when The Boss and I were having a conversation about modesty and he was all, “You’re not modest,” I pulled his hair (forrealz, because I’m mature like that) and go, “What’s that supposed to mean? I WEAR HIJAB, AND MY WHOLE BODY IS LIKE, TOTALLY COVERED” and he goes, “Yeah, you’re modest in that sense, but your humor is so gross, and you’re always talking about farts,” and I was all, “Yeah because that’s hilarious, and you do that too!” and he was like, “Yeah that’s because I hang around you all the time!”

Whatevz, Dude. At least I don’t wear my cardigans without pants like Miranda, here.
Also, I’m pretty sure she farted during this photo shoot.

Cardis are always a great investment because they can by layered, and accessorized, and you can take them from play date, to work space, to out late, and their fabulosity never seems to die. They cover your bum, the ruffles minimize chest exposure (depending on the placement of course) and they keep the chill out, which is essential for me because even when L.A. is 71 and sunny, I always need an extra layer.
