Is it weird that I LOVE utility pants for women, and CANNOT STAND cargo shorts for men? I don’t know if it’s a double standard, but utility pants get me every time.

They’re so versatile, you can wear them on the beach, to an afternoon matinee with your pals, on a camping/hiking trip, or even to a casual dinner at your family’s house. They’re also the perfect alternative to wearing sweats, or yoga pants to run errands.

If you’re trying to move away from wearing jeans for religious reasons, utility pants are a great way to transition. They fit more loosely than denim,  giving you more room in the hip and thigh for comfort, or this case, for modesty.

Pair these pants with a tunic, a cardigan, or a basic tee, and flat, open-toed sandals.
I saw the pics in the Vicky’s catalog, but I’m not buying the whole heels-with-utility-pants Thing.

And if I wouldn’t do it, I’m definitely not going to tell you to.
Because that’s just how much I care.

My only problem with these pants (bought similar ones from New York and Company for $10 is that it’s hard to wear something long on such baggy pants! I am finding it hard to match anything with these cargo pants. My wardrobe mostly consist of cute dresses (knee length). When I pair the dresses with jeans they look fine, but the baggier the pants, the worst they get.

I tried wearing the baggy cargo pants with a shorter long sleeve Tee, I found my back exposed when gardening or sitting somewhere.

    Advice?

P.S: I am a fuller figured sister. Think Arab curves.

Hi Organica. A casual tunic would look good with pants like these, and they’re usually long enough to cover your back/bum. If you’re more curvy, try an empire waist, but avoid something that looks too formal. (I.e. A kimono/dolman top.) My mom bought me two adorable tunics a few years ago — one from J.Crew, and one from J. Jill. They’re long, loose, super comfy, and I still wear them! Don’t worry about your overall look being too baggy. It’s the nature of these pants to be paired with something that looks clean and neat, but casual.

Thanks for posting this — I am looking to transition out of jeans and needed an easy-wear pant I could throw on.

Organica, I don’t know how full-figured you are, but onestopplus.com (sizes 12+) has long tunics that are cute and should cover fairly well. Just type tunics in the search. If you aren’t a size 12+, you can still order one and you may find it to your liking as far as modesty.
