The Closet: Taking Your Look From Day to Night

It never matters how much stuff you have in your closet. What matters is that you know how to wear it. We know that everyone likes to shop, but by making a habit of finding new ways to make your clothes more wearable, the creative part of your brain will get a workout, while your
wallet gets to rest.

Start with a basic piece, like this black sweater dress from Target that Michelle has on, and work from there.
Most women already have an item similar to this in their closet, but if you don’t, a long top or sweater, in a solid, neutral color will do just fine.

FOR DAY:

For a day look, keep it casual by adding basic pieces in solid colors.
We gave Michelle a  pair of wide-leg jeans, a gray cardigan, which we left open in the front, and a pair of black flats. She hung on to her every-day bag, which is a great option because it’s black, and a white hijab with soft silver details goes well with the overall look.

What she had on:

for day

1. The patent-leather flats by Paolo that Michelle is wearing are from last season, but we found a similar pair (also by Paolo) @ Nordstrom.

2. The sweater Michelle was wearing is no longer available, but we found this Frenchi tunic cardigan @ Nordstrom, which is just as cute, and suitable for every-day wear. (I actually have it in ‘Fortune,’ and I love it!)

3. Level 99 Laguna Wideleg Pant @ Ju Ju B’s

4. White hijab with silver details @ H&M

FOR EVENING:

For an evening look, we kept Michelle in the same jeans, and added a tailored blazer, and a few accessories. The great thing about a pair of wide-leg jeans is that they are so versatile — making them just as easy to wear for night. We also swapped her flats for a heel, and her big black handbag for a smaller, colorful clutch.

What she had on:

for night

1. Merona Giftable Wrap in black @ Target

2. Level 99 Laguna Wideleg Pant @ Ju Ju B’s

3. Frye Ankle Bootie @ shopbop

4. Clutch @ Nordstrom. We couldn’t find this online, but we picked it up from the junior’s department, where they always have cute handbags (and jewelry!)

5. Betsey Johnson leopard print belt

6. Target Limited Edition Velvet Jacket in Ebony @ Target

Hey sabrina, just came across your blog and I think you’re doing a great job. I love your closet style videos, it’s a very original idea :D and yes could you possibly post a video showing how you wrap your hijab soon?

Sabrina…I loved the videos and your blog. I’m learning a lot. Maybe you’d like to pay a visit to “The Girls” at Forest Edge?!

This post totally made me laugh. I will definitely have to kick up my heels for a while and read the associated links. When I first started checking out the photos, I felt like I was looking at some type of game show set…”and here, we have the lovely Michelle, wearing a black emsemble. Give her a hand, ladies and gentlemen. Doesn’t she look great?”

Wonderful post. Love both your approach to fashion and to blogging. We totally made a good decision when we decided to follow you.

I loved this one. I think your tips are great – I especially like the individual numbered pieces so I know exactly what I’m looking for at the store. I actually just purchased extremely! similar pair of denim trousers for work and comparable black and slate blue wrap like the Target one. Thanks for the inspiration. ;)
Even ladies (like myself) who don’t wear the hijab can use these tips equally as the ones who do. Good job girl! Keep up the good work!

If I start wearing pajamas to work, technically, that’d make a great day to evening outfit, wouldn’t it? I’m intrigued.

Are you following me because that’s what I wore to work today (the grey cardigan/wide leg jeans/white tshirt)

I looooooove the fashion you’ve got going on right now! Do more! DO MORE!

    … the crowd has spoken.
