Leave your college hoodie, and those dirty old Uggs at home this winter, and embrace the cold with these chic winter essentials.

Will there ever be a single outfit that Katie Holmes doesn’t look good in?
WE DON’T THINK SO.
(We know we stand alone when we say she even looked cute in her hubby’s jeans).

While an all-black outfit would make most of us look funeral-bound, our glamorous celebrity makes it work, with peep-toe shoes, and a pair of brown sunglasses.

Katie Holmes’ pulled-together look inspired us to give Michelle something basic and easy.

What she had on:

This was a gift, but we’re pretty sure you’ll find something similar if you dig through your hijab bins!

Tip: A roomy black handbag, like the one Michelle is carrying,  is perfect for a small umbrella (like this one from totes) in case rain is in the forecast.

Another great look: Kate Capshaw’s laid-back winter style really caught our attention. We love how she mixed a tough leather jacket with a more feminine layered scarf look.

Kate Capshaw’s easy winter style inspired us to give Michelle’s winter wardrobe a little Bohemian flare.

3. We copped this cutie at H&M a few years ago, but don’t let that stop you from popping into a store near you to check out H&M’s winter collection from this year. You’re bound to find something just as cute, or cuter!

Tip: Wear a pair of sweater tights under the skirt to keep your legs warm — like this pair from Urban Outfitters.

The jeans I’m wearing are super comfy, and were a lucky find at Loehmann’s. Well, they’re not really jeans, they’re more like wide-leg trousers with a little stretch. So…okay, they’re not like jeans at all. Either way, I think everyone woman should own a pair of pants like these — they can be dressed up for a semi-formal lunch/dinner, and they’re a great option for a Casual Friday at work.

I’m kind of obsessed with these sweater-knit turtlenecks from the junior’s department at Nordstrom. They’re perfect for every-day wear, and in the winter, I really do wear them like, everyday.

I got this adorable kimono-sleeve, silk and chiffon top from shopbop.com. The zigzag velvet pattern adds a great texture to it, and a piece like this is great to keep on hand for a more formal occasions, like dinner parties or a date night. My hijab and earrings are from Target and H&M, which usually won’t disappoint when it comes to scarves and accessories.
