Life Called. It’s My Turn to be the Flipper

This is my cousin’s son, Aydin. He’s 4 years old, and his dad used to “burger flip” Uzma and me when we were Aydin’s age. Not sure what a burger flip is? It’s like the most awesome, high-flying adventure a kid could go on. You lay on the flipper’s arms, body straight and tense, and the flipper proceeds to fling you into the air so you flip from one side of your body to the other, like a burger. Hence the name.
Among the many fun things I did with my cousin(s) growing up (including the burger flip) one of my favorite past times with them was to play Blackjack (with toothpicks as our currency) into the wee hours of the morning. Over the weekend, as our family came together to celebrate my aunt and uncle’s 50th wedding anniversary, I got to spend some one-on-one time with Aydin, and it reminded me of how much life has changed over the years. Now it’s my turn to play with the little boy whose father was an intricate part of my life during my childhood years.
Aydin and I set up our game of chess pieces in the living room, away from most of the adults, and he explained the rules, “You can only move forward with this piece, but all the other pieces can move backwards, frontwards, and sidewards, and then you can sometimes go diagonal, and the way you win is if you bump the other person’s King. No, Queen. No, King. Ready? Can I go first?”
The game went on for about 20 minutes, and although I played pretty tough, I lost. I must not have been paying close enough attention to the rules. I think it was the whole “sidewards” thing that threw me off.

He is so cute…….I am not just saying that just because he is my son!
What a cutie pie. Did you burger flip him too? Who chose his Turkish name? Good choice =)
