Dad’s Notes

For years, whenever I stay at my dad’s house, he leaves me notes. Without fail, throughout the course of history, he has written a note for me before he leaves for work, and there’s one waiting for me at night if I get home after he’s gone to bed. The notes are always on the kitchen counter, to the left of the stove, and they let me know what’s for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or any new snacks we have in the house. When I was still working at The Washington Post.com, I usually got home around 2 a.m., and would come home to find a note with dinner details, along with a chocolate donut for me as an after midnight snack.
And things still haven’t changed.
This morning I came downstairs, and just like mornings passed, I found a note from my dad letting me know there was pesto pasta for me, and a hot and cold pack for my knee in case I needed it post workout. And the P.S.? It said, “Have gummy bears.”
He left a bag of them next to the note.
