As a Muslim woman who has been wearing hijab for about six years now, I understand that each woman moves at her own pace when it comes to making changes regarding her level of spirituality – and this is especially true when it comes to her choice of clothing.
Our fashion videos and daily Closet posts are not meant to impose any sort of religious mandate, and none of the people involved in anything we do here are, or claim to be, scholars.
In any episode, or daily Closet post, I may suggest you wear sky-high stiletto heels, or a dabble of jewelry, but please note that each person may find it necessary to tweak these outfits to their preferred level of modesty, and we encourage individuals to put their own creative spin on anything we chose. From time to time, I’ll also write about a breath-taking dress that costs $400, and umbrella that costs $70, or leather boots that cost $1,200. I know, it’s not nice to tease you like that, but hey, a girl can dream, right? The great thing about exploring fashion is that there is no right way. Well sometimes there is, like for example when I say so, but for the most part those $1,200 boots I mention in a post have a look-a-like waiting for you at Nordstrom — and they cost $60.
We don’t want you to mirrorwhat we do here (unless that’s what you want to do, because that’s totally cool) we want you to take pointers, get ideas, and then take what you learn and let your own creativity flow as you stroll through the designer district where you live, browse the flea markets, shuffle through a thrift store, or even sit down at your own sewing machine.
So before you e-mail us about how your bracelet makes so much noise it’s immodest, or how it’s ludicrous to spend $90 on a silver ring, please keep in mind that all of these outfits can be worn at home for more private functions, to your next girls-night-in, or found way cheaper at Target.
Slice of Lemon.com does not accept responsibility for your friends telling you that you look like a dud, or for any questionable clothing choices made after watching these videos, or reading our daily posts.
Happy Dressing!
