Dress Well: Date Night from Sabrina Enayatulla on Vimeo.

Valentine’s Day. Whether you heart it or hate it (HA! That was all me, you guys!) it’s just around the corner, which means ladies and gents alike are preparing for DATE NIGHT!

But even if you don’t plan on hitting the town with your sweetie on Feb. 14, it’s always a good idea to have a date night outfit in your mental arsenal (or actually picked out in your closet!) for this special occasion.

When it comes to a date night outfit it doesn’t really matter if this is your first date with Mr. (maybe) Right, or your 500th date with the cutie you married 12 years ago! Styling an outfit for date night is really all about 3 things:

1. Comfort

2. Balance

3. Personal Style

Find something that makes you feel good and the automatic bonus is you will look good in it. The worst fashion mistake in ever is seeing women (both in real life and celebs on TV) who wear shoes too big or a heel too high because they go with the outfit only to look sadly uncomfortable (and unfashionable!) when something real-life happens. In the case of a celebrity that would be something like walking on stage to receive an award and for the rest of us that means…walking…in general. Like, from the parking lot to the restaurant you’re dining at.

While part of date night is hoping the person across the table finds you attractive, there is a lot to be said for trading massive amounts of seductive femininity and outrageous fashion (save the wild trends for your next girl’s get together!) for balance. You can do this by adding a little toughness to feminine pieces like we did with the blazer Kaiyan has on and the studded shirt Chelsey is wearing.

And finally, while we don’t recommend wearing your REPUBLICAN AND PROUD shirt on a first date (unless you met your date at a political convention) that doesn’t mean you can’t express who you are through your clothing. You totally can! Just remember to keep it simple by picking pieces that enhance your outfit like a favorite scarf or other accessory.
