On the way home from dinner Saturday night:
Me to Kai-Yan: …And they’ll like, guesstimate how much…
The Boss: Guesstimate?
Me: Yeah, guesstimate. So they’ll guesstimate…
The Boss: Do you mean estimate?
Me: No, I mean guesstimate.
The Boss: Guesstimate is not a word.
Me: Yes it is.
Ryan: I’ll Google it.
The Boss: Okay, what does it mean?
Me: Estimate is like when you have an idea, but guesstimate is like when you’re more guessing.
The Boss: What? That’s like saying ginormous.
Me: Well ginormous is a word, too.
Ryan: Found it!
The Boss: It’s not a word.
Ryan: Yup. It’s a word.
The Boss: Yeah, on Google.
Ryan: Nope, on Dictionary.com. It says, “To estimate without substantial basis in facts or statistics.”
Me: BAM.
Ryan: Dude, she’s the journalist.
Kai-Yan: Yeah, she’s the professional writer.
The Boss: Estimate, guesstimate…
The Boss: Stephanie would have made you edit that.

LOL. Yep, despite the fact that it’s a real word… it just looks so weird when you write it!
LOL, poor Boss
I use guesstimate ALL the time. Thanks for the vindication, Ryan and Dictionary.com
guesstimate sounds like “estimating the number of guests” lol
