Back When I Was Young…

Internet, I found our first family cell phone.
As you can see, it was quite the monstrosity.
I decided to measure it up against regular household items to see if anything could possibly be bigger.
My findings were astonishing.
It’s taller than a holiday greeting card.
Nearly as wide as my (dusty) computer charger.
Could likely pummel a banana in a fight.
Taller than a decorative table clock.
About the size of my external hard drive.
Taller than your average toaster.
Looming over my very first digital camera.
It’s even taller than the cordless phone that connects to our land line.
When I asked my dad (who refuses to ever get a cell phone the way I refuse to ever join Facebook) why he still had it, he said, “In case of an emergency, I think it can still dial 9-1-1″
That’s interesting, considering in the event there were an emergency, I don’t know that my dad would have time to run into my room, lift up a canvas basket, stacked on top of another canvas basket, and then rummage through old paperwork, a box of batteries, and a bag of markers to find this.
I still remember how awesome Uzma and I thought we were when we got this phone — star-filled eyes, oblivious to its enormity. Looking back now, I can’t think of any phone that could possibly have been bigger.
Oh, crap, ya’ll! I forgot about the CAR PHONE that came with my whip!
Ah yes, Readers…
We have a winner.

Hahaha I have exactly the same hard drive
wow that car phone is ridiculously HUGE.
they probably made it that big for people who have trouble finding things in plain sight (aka me lol)
ps. right after i read the part where it mentioned that you dont have facebook, i had an intense urge to cyber-hug you. not sure if you cud feel it all the way down in sunny california, but it’s the thought that counts
…I’m not a kid anymore. but some days I wish I was a kid again.
That looks like black galaxy granite in the kitchen and stainless appliances (I’m assuming its your mom’s). I can’t make out what backsplash is on the wall. I just installed the same and am going crazy trying to find a nice backsplash to go with them…(I know you don’t normally do interior design but my kitchen is the same with medium oak cabinets
)
Thanks!
That was so hilarious. I remember both phones..wait, I’m 24 and starting to feel old.
Oh wow, that brings back memories! I remember our first mobile was like that!
hahahaha…that’s pricelessly hilarious
also, i don’t have twitter, so i can’t tell you this there, but i completely agree with you about food bank guy on TBL.
LOL! I remember that. It was my first phone too
