During my summers home from college, I worked as a summer camp counselor at the school my mom has been teaching at for the last 12-ish years. It was an absolute blast working with kids ranging in age from 3-6, and if I started telling you about some of the things those kids did and said, you’d literally be rolling on the floor in stitches; those moments were priceless. The first year I worked at the camp, I was assigned to a group of 3 and 4 year old kids, and our group was called the Pink Flamingos. At the end of the summer, some of the parents gave the counselors little goodies as a token of their thanks, and one mom gifted me with this beautiful pink flamingo brooch by a company called Danecraft. Each time I wear it I am touched by her gesture, and reminded of the side-splitting moments I spent with those wonderful children.

“Man in the early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is regressive back to ancient times” - Nobel laureate, Tawakul Karman, in response to journalists who said her hijab was not proportionate with her level of intellect and education.
