Counting My Blessings

I wrote a post the other day about the frustrating aspects of job hunting, but I’m in a happy place today, so I thought I’d share a few of the things that are awesome about working part-time retail.
1. Working retail means I have a uniform I have to wear each day, thus eliminating the time I would normally spend picking daily outfits, and ironing hijabs.
2. Working retail means there is no office environment so no one brings holiday snacks, which means I won’t gain weight this holiday season. Unless I bake at home, which I already did. Oops. Cake, anyone?
3. Working part-time means that I can get the laundry done during the week instead of having to wait in line for the machines on the weekend.
4. I get an employee discount where I work so that means that I can pay $4 for dress socks instead of like, $6. But I also don’t have health insurance, which I would have if I had a full-time job doing something I loved — so maybe this one kind of cancels itself out.
5. I’m usually home by 1 p.m., which means that I can open the door for The Boss when he gets home in the evening, which is always really fun for me because I like to keep re-locking the lock he just opened with his key and watch his face through the peep hole while I do it. He always looks so confused, and that always gives me a good chuckle.
6. Coming home from work while the sun is still out is a beautiful, beautiful feeling.
7. I walk to work, which means I don’t get L.A. traffic, and I’m also helping the environment.
8. The people at work make me laugh.
9. I use a knife at work (to open the boxes) which I keep on me all the time, which could come in handy as a self-defense weapon, and I probably couldn’t say the same thing if I worked in a cube because throwing an office chair at someone’s head would likely require more upper-body strength than I have.
10. Finishing up with work by the early afternoon gives me time to come here and talk to you guys. And you’ll never know how very special that is to me.

I was laid off last month and I am currently receiving unemployment, and I feel much the same way about not working! LOL I get to spend more time with my daughter, husband and friends. I can be home when my husband gets home. I can have money for lunches with friends, clothes, and outings all without working. Even though I miss working sometimes, I still very much appreciate being on unemployment and being able to take a break.

AW men! The last one is the sweetest!
That is what I also love about working parttime, I have the time to iron my laundry on tuesdays and thursdays when I am not working.. I dont have to wait till the weekend when I have a huge pile waiting for me.
I love to clean the house on weekdays, so in the weekends I have the time to be lazy.

I work part time in retail too. It does get frustrating, but after reading this I realise I should count my blessings too
Office chairs are often not very heavy
