EDIT AFTER PUBLISH: I have removed this video from Vimeo, upon request from the film’s director. She gave me permission to post this video (I would never have done it without first asking) but now there are a few legal bridges she needs to cross before her film can find a place on the Web. Once all the legal rights clear, we should be able to re-post. Thank you for your patience.

“Fashioning Faith,” is a film by Yasmin Moll, a PhD student in Sociocultural Anthropology at NYU, about young Muslim women redefining what it means to be Muslim in contemporary America.

Thank you, Yasmin for making this film, and for asking me to be a part of it.

(Running time: Approx. 22 min.)

    Wow! I loved it :]
It shows a bigger picture on ‘Islamic Fashion’

And you did not say Like a lot! (Although I’m sure I would)

I think like you did like AWESOME!

Besides like you say like a lot in real life…why change yourself when people LIKE you the way you are?

    Love and support always. :)

I want to add that I agree with you when you say “muslim women shouldn’t have to defend themselves” to prove that we’re normal.
I’ve only recently stopped doing that myself hehe. I got tired of being so apologetic all the time that now when anyone asks me “aren’t you hot” I’m like “Yeah, so?”
    =D

TbarkAllah, masha’Allah, great job and whathaveyou. A gorgeous, honest portrayal of hijab as interpreted by American women shopping in the American market.

Is this video serving as her dissertation, Sabrina?

Blaming the hormones, I got teary eyes watching the film. It reminded me of how, exposed I am… Making me feel guilty and small. I feel proud whenever I see Muslim women wearing hijab in Moscow. InsyaAllah, one day, I will pick up the hijab, too. Good film, makes me proud (like, reaaallllllyyy proud) being a Muslim. :)

Masha’Allah! THat was wonderful. I really loved your opening quote about feminism. And you only said “like” when you were reflecting on a personal thought, so it came across as intelligent and honest! I’m really happy to have seen this. She did a wonderful job.

In short: AWSOME!….in length: “LIKE” AWSOME!!:)

Even though Islam has to do with so much more than the external, it was especially nice to see that we have representation in the creative fields, and people who are thinking about our needs as women who choose to express their liberation through modesty.
