Hand-Painted Ceramic Frog Piggy Bank

I got this piggy bank of a mama frog holding her baby as a gift when I was in high school.

I was never a straight-A science student, but I’m pretty sure that mama frogs don’t cradle their baby tadpoles in their arms. Oh, does tadpole mean baby? Was saying that like saying “I’d like a Chai tea?” or saying, “The Sahara Desert?” Language can be confusing sometimes. Don’t even get me started on the six different ways to say Cilantro.

I love details, and I especially love when you can see how much hard work went into thinking about design. Look at the beginnings of a webbed hand on the tadpole. Brilliant. And look, mama holds baby. Baby holds mama. Too sweet.

I love the shadow under her webbed feet.

And her bony little knees are too cute for words.
Do frogs have knees?

I especially like how her eyes are crossed just enough to make you smile, but not enough to make you feel bad that her eyes are crossed.

We store change in here as an emergency reserve so when I run out of quarters for laundry, there’s one last place I can look. Usually I find a few, enabling me to continue on with my domestic responsibility of laundering.
(The Boss cleans the bathroom, so laundry was definitely a fair trade.)

    Very cute.

I hate cleaning the bathroom. I think that’s a very fair exchange as well.

ugh quarters and laundry! Totally understand you! I was going to break into my daughters piggy bank full of state quarters to do laundry but the friend who gave me the gift forbade me from doing it :(

What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is regressive back to ancient times” - Nobel laureate, Tawakul Karman, in response to journalists who said her hijab was not proportionate with her level of intellect and education.
