The Pioneer Woman Comes to L.A.

Over the weekend, Ree Drummond aka, The Pioneer Woman was in L.A. as part of the many stops she’s making across the country on her book tour. Drummond released her first cookbook “The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes From An Accidental Country Girl” in October, and obvi, I bought it right away, and then incessantly refreshed the page with her tour dates waiting for L.A. to show up, while also repeatedly leaving comments on her site reminding her NOT to forget to stop in L.A., and when she finally updated her book tour page saying she’d be here, I continued to obsessively refresh until “TBA” turned into Sunday, Nov. 22, 5 p.m. at Borders in Torrance, Ca.
I finally knew when she’d be here, and I felt satisfied. Kind of like the way you feel after you eat six pieces of your sister’s wedding cake. The only difference was that after I marked Ree’s coming-to-L.A. date on our calendar, I wasn’t filled with guilt, or afraid to wear pants that had a zipper and a button.
The Boss ran some errands in the afternoon, and I was so excited to meet one of my favorite bloggers that while I was home by myself, I decided to remove the hair from my upper lip. As in, I removed the MAN HAIR from my face FOR A COMPLETE STRANGER. As we turned the corner to park the car, we saw a long line of people inside. By the time we got in, there were already more than 150 people in line.
The Boss and I waited in line for four hours before we finally made it to the front, and then it was my turn to say hello, and give her a small gift I brought with me.
I told her that my dad makes a really awesome chicken curry, and I gave her the recipe. She was just as warm and friendly in real life as she comes across on her Web site, and she thanked me, and I wanted to tell her she was really pretty, but I thought facial-hair removal, and a compliment might be going a little overboard.
She looked at the bag closely, while I explained what it was, and then she signed my cookbook. Well, I guess I mean her cookbook since she wrote it. But I bought it, so now it’s mine, although it’s technically hers because her name and picture are on it.
And then we chatted about whose cookbook it really was. Mine or hers?
Well not really, but had we actually done that I’m sure she would have said, “It doesn’t matter anyway. And wow, I just noticed your upper lip is so smooth and clean from any fine hairs,” and I would have been like, “Really? Aw, thanks! I hadn’t noticed.”
At some point I turned dumb, and stupid, and annoying and used air quotes.
But I think Ree pretended like she didn’t notice (which makes me feel like I can salvage part of my dignity) and continued to sign my/her book.
She asked me where she could find other curry mixes, but I wasn’t sure since I’ve never lived in a rural area. I’m not sure if they sell Shan Masala Mix in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, but if they do, ROCK ON, PAWHUSKA!
Meeting Ree was definitely one of those moments I’ll always keep in the “Great times in L.A” part of my brain.
But then, things got even better because she was awesome enough to do this.
When we left, The Boss was all, “Wow, she took a huge gamble by doing that. For all she knows you could be running a porn Web site.”
Yes. You’re right. THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I COULD BE DOING.

OMG, I love this post. My friends called me Saturday to announce how cool Pioneerwoman was and how her hubby (a real life cowboy) signed the picture on the back of the book! They waited 5.5 hours in line.
I am so excited now! I guess I will make it to her signing when she comes to my city…
YAAY! Thanks for sharing.
P.S: I love your outfit. Where do you buy your pashminas from?
Hang on while I pick up my jaw off of the ground…
SO JEALOUS!!! (Yes, I’m yelling!)That is so awesome!
I LOVE Ree. I keep wanting to tell her that I do but I don’t want to scare her.
So, so cool. Gold star for you.
I can’t say that I’m jealous, but oh my goodness you got to me The Pioneer Woman!!! Go head with your bad self.
Lucky! I love her blog.
Hi Organica. I think I got that one from Target. That’s so cool that your friend got to meet her, and some of her family!
Great post Sabrina! You are hilarious. I love your site… it’s so well done. It was nice meeting you at Ree’s book signing. I put a pic and a link to your site in my post about the book signing.

Loved your post. I was one of the many in line with you last night. I also adored your video about how to wear the hijab – You are adorable and have a very fun blog. Best wishes.
I’ve sort of missed you
Again, let me say this, you look 100x better than I ever looked, in a hijab. I just look chubby.
So envious! I’m totally hooked ever since you introduced me to her site. That book is really the only thing I want for Christmas and I’m really glad you went through the trouble of signing it for me. hehe!
The only time I hear “curry” in the country is: “The puddle was so deep, I had to curry her on my back so her shoes didn’t get wet…”
I actually order most supplies online at kingauthurflour.com. due to my limited shopping opportunities.
Wow! So cool mA! It’s like when famous celebs do shout outs on WPGC and WKYS only better cuz there’s a visual.
wow.how cool is that.wow.
I waited in line for 2 hours and had to leave because my son was not having any of it! So cool that you actually got to meet her. She was lovely and even though I was way, way in the back, she answered my question during the Q & A.
Nice!
But The Boss was definitely right !!!!
Ah! It is so weirdly cool to see two my fav bloggers together!! I’m jealous, she is not coming anywhere NEAR my tiny little town.
