Handmade Wool Booties

wool booties

While I was home for my sister’s wedding, I bought these handmade wool booties from my mother-in-law who was selling them on behalf of a woman in their Muslim community back in New England. I thought they were adorable, and when I heard that the woman is a refugee from Bosnia, AND a widow, I scooped up a few to give as gifts to friends and family. The craftsmanship is amazing, and this was seriously like, the best $10 I have ever spend. I adore these beyond belief, and I wear them all the time. In fact, I’m wearing them at this very moment. They’re thick enough to wear around the house (even on cold tile) but their not like socks so don’t try to shove them into your favorite leather boots because then you’ll need help pulling them off, which you won’t realize until everyone is in the car waiting for you so they can go to dinner, and you’ll probably end up banging your funny bone against the wall, and when someone finally comes back into the house to see what’s taking so long, you’ll be curled up on the floor in defeat, watching your fingers spasm — because that’s what happens when you hit your funny bone.

These come in two sizes: Man, and Woman. But they stretch, so even though shoes can’t really be ‘one size fits all’ these kind of are. They’re made in a few different colors, and I’m trying to get MIL to encourage this woman to sell them on a bigger platform because they really are awesome, and the money will help keep this woman on her feet. I’m going to look into how and when these can be available to purchase, and I promise to get back to you guys.

“Man in the early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is regressive back to ancient times” - Nobel laureate, Tawakul Karman, in response to journalists who said her hijab was not proportionate with her level of intellect and education.
