This is Me Swallowing My Pride

When I was 10 years old, my dad called the family together for a family meeting, and told us that we were moving to Germany for three years. After the meeting, I went to my room, and started scribbling diligently in my notebook — because even back then, the only way I knew how to express myself was through my writing.

Oh, did I mention, I didn’t write just anything.
I wrote a rap song.
Yes, you read that correctly.
I wrote a rap song.

About 30 minutes later, I preformed it for my family.
Or should I say, I “rapped” it while my sister cried. No, not because the song was that bad (although it was that bad) but because she had just started middle school, and her life, as she put it back then, was “totally ruined.”

(On a related side note: I didn’t have a stage name back then, but according to a random Web site I just found, if I were a rapper, my name would be “Busta Twist.”)

I would never have remembered that I wrote this song, had I not been home for my sister’s wedding, and found one of my old notebooks that my mom was now using for her grocery lists, and random note taking.

To say I was tremendously embarrassed reading this as an adult is beyond an understatement, and I had second, and third, and fourth thoughts about posting this. There are words spelled wrong, and at one point I say “sista,” which was probably for effect since it was a rap, and Oh My God! I actually just cringed.

But against all my better judgment, here it is, on the World Wide Web.

rap 1

rap 2

The only non-embarrassing memory I had after reading this was remembering the pen I used to write with, which every kid in elementary school had back then. It was one of those fat ball points with six different colors that you could call upon simply by sliding down a little plastic switch at the top of your pen.

Now that I have been exposed to the world, I’m going to crawl into a hole in hide.
I’m not sure when I can publicly show my face again.

Goodbye forever,
(Or at least until the Internet laughter dies down)

This was the push I needed to start blogging again! If you can post that then what the hell do I have to cringe about?? Saying that I did love it, I read this bit ‘we’ll try to keep straight faces when its time to part’ as ‘we’ll try to keep straight faces when its time to fart’ which just made me laugh even more. Thank you for sharing!
