Maybe We Should All Wear Name Tags. That Way There’s No Confusion.

The Boss and I were in Long Beach over the weekend getting his car serviced, and although the man who checked us in said it would take “about 30 minutes,” we ended up spending a good three hours at the dealership. It wasn’t that big of a deal though considering he showed us to the waiting room that had huge leather bucket seats, a flat-screen television, donuts, coffee, and a good selection of flavored teas.
The women’s bathroom was also super clean, which is always a plus in my book.

After hanging around for about 45 minutes, we decided to go for a walk, but when we got outside, we realized that there was nothing but car dealerships within a five-mile radius. Not even a CVS or 7-Eleven. So instead, we walked around the lot, looking at the cars for sale, and trying to fight off the salesmen who kept coming over to sell us a car.

My ammo was to pretend that I couldn’t hear or see them.

“Hi how are you?”

Don’t move.

“Uh. Ahem. HELLO M’AAM. How are you today?”

Stay very still.

“So, are you looking to buy a car?”

Pretend you’re invisible.

I’m not really sure what The Boss was working with, but I wasn’t really interested in finding out. It was each man for himself out there on that lot, and since my approach seemed to be working, The Boss was left with no choice but to engage.

“Hi, no, we’re just looking around, thanks.”

“So are you in the market?”

“No, just here to get my car serviced.”

I’m pretty sure The Boss turned around a few times to give me a “Are you serious?” look, but I took the liberty of applying the same trickery on him as I did on the salesman.

Eventually, the salesmen left us alone, and we were free to wander the lot uninterrupted, and I was free to take some pictures. Well, not really free to take pictures, because then another salesman came over and was all, “Are you a photographer?” and I tried to ignore him, but this time The Boss just acted plain stubborn by keeping quiet, so I was forced to say, “Amateur. It’s just for fun,” but then he got all concerned and was like, “Are you getting enough light?” and I was all, “No, actually THIS HUGE OPEN PARKING LOT is BLOCKING THE SUN that’s blazing overhead,” only that last part was in my head.

Then the guy starts telling me that if I use my flash too much my camera battery would die, and I was all “OMG, DUDE! Go sell a car or something!” except that last part was in my head, too, but what wasn’t in my head was The Boss just standing around not helping me (that was real life, People) which I think was just his way of seeking revenge, which I’m pretty sure is like really unIslamic, because aren’t we all supposed to turn the other cheek, and forgive and forget?

Oh, that might be what it says in the Bible.
I’ll have to double check and get back to you on that one.

Readers, please direct your attention to this little beauty.

What is it?
I don’t know either.
But that doesn’t matter, because I think it’s lovely.

I don’t get it sometimes. You know, the perfect little details all around us. Sometimes it’s just so overwhelming, my puny human brain just can’t fathom God’s limitless ability. I mean, look at little Fuzzy-Wuzzy up here sleeping in his cradle. Could you make that? I couldn’t.

When The Boss and I read the Qur’an together, we always read the English translation as well. It really helps us to grasp the meaning of the verses better. So often in the Qu’ran God says that there are signs for those who reflect — signs of His existence all around us if we only open the eyes in our hearts.

I think I found a sign, ya’ll.

This picture reminds me of the scene in “March of the Penguins” when the male penguins see the large group of females approaching, and they all stand up really straight trying to scope out their partner among thousands of lookalikes. Well, maybe they don’t all look the same in Penguin World, but they all look the same to me, and they definitely look the same on T.V.

(Great. Now all my critics are going to think I’m racist against the animal kingdom.)

The male penguins are seeing their female partners after two months, and the female penguins have never even seen their babies, but somehow, in that HUGE crowd, they all find each other, and reunite as a happy family.

But I can never understand how they do it. How do they know who’s who? When The Boss and I go to the mosque to pray, we’re apart for like an hour, and when we come out of our respective sections, I always walk up to the wrong guy when it’s time to leave. Usually, I turn blood red, start to sweat, apologize, and politely excuse myself, then when I find The *real* Boss I’m all, “Ugh, where were you? I walked over to the wrong guy!” and he’s all, “How is that my fault?” And I’m like, “Well, I don’t know, maybe because all the boy Muslims look the same” and he’s like, “So, you’re saying I look like that guy?” and then he’ll point to a really fat man with a missing tooth, and then I’ll look at The Boss, and suddenly he really starts to look like THAT guy.

Then I turn blood red, start to sweat, apologize, and politely excuse myself.
Lucky for me, The Boss doesn’t drive away until my shenanigans have passed — though if he did, I might go home with a complete stranger, and not even know the difference.

Nice pics, I like that you use the rule of third. The signs of God are everywhere, I glad you captured one of them.

Just out of curiosity, why do you lump all other black folks as one option. But, give African Ameircans and other Asian ethnic groups there own seperate option.

For example,I am Black. However, I identify myself as a Somali (my ethnic background) first and then Black. As i see it, it would make more sense to either allow people to check off just their race or their ethnicity (geographically). Otherwise, data will come out misleading.

I was laughing so hard when you pretended not to see or hear the salesman!

And when you lose The Boss and go up to another guy! HAHAHAHA!

I’m Pakistani, but had to put down Indian on the poll. Although my grandparents WERE Indian and I have family in India, so I suppose it doesn’t really matter, but just thought you should know.

Hahaha thats hilarious, I do the same thing when we are on a holiday.. ignore al the waiters trying to get us to eat in their restaurant.

Even the things you say in your mind are hilarious.. but doesnt The Boss gets mad at you when he reads it on your blog? Like: “oooow so you were thinking THAT at that moment”

My Boss always tries to guess what I am thinking.. and sometimes he is even right!

I feel another comment war brewing…

Anywho, I always think it’s amazing how they find each other too since I often have trouble finding my own hubby in the home improvement store (he’s usually wearing a baseball cap, carpenter’s jeans, a hoodie and work boots…do you know how many dudes look like that?!)

    Like EVERYONE!!

I’ve been beet-red myself when I’ve tapped the WRONG man on the shoulder to ask him his feelings on the selection of toilet paper holders.

    Ugh.

Hi Samiya. The Boss and I pretty much have the exact same sense of humor and he knows me too well (maybe a little too well, haha) to ever be offended by anything I say, write, or think:) That’s so cute that your husband can guess what you’re thinking — I bet you can do the same with him!

Hey how nice, got an answer back.
Its wonderful how couples can be so complementary to each other… so there is not often a reason to get mad at each other, because you have the same way of thinking.

Yes, I can sense it when something is bothering him. Even he can sense it at my voice or see it at my face if something is bothering me. The first thing he asks me then is: oke, whats going on?

I love it, to be able to talk to him about everything! He is not only my husband, but also my best friend.
