The Boss is Sort of Like the Guy from “I Love You Man” Only He Wasn’t Actually Invited to the Wedding, and Also, I Haven’t Seen That Movie, So it’s Very Possible that I Just Made an Inaccurate Statement.

If anyone keeps up with celebrity nonsense, then you know that over the weekend, Los Angeles Lakers Forward, Lamar Odom wed Khloe Kardashian, who, for the record, I don’t really consider a “celebrity” because to my knowledge she hasn’t done anything to showcase a skill or talent. Getting paid to live your “real life” on TV doesn’t up your street cred in my world.
It’s likely that all the hoopla surrounding these nuptials is mostly due to the fact that all the celebrity “news” media outlets reported that the couple had only known each other for two months before deciding to tie the knot.
Now, The Boss and I just aren’t into celebrity gossip, but if you’ve been reading for a while, then you know that The Boss and his ENTIRE family (this includes extended family) are DIE-HARD Lakers fans, which was the sole reason that the Kardashian-Odom wedding was a topic of conversation in our home. Over the weekend, The Boss and I kept searching for celebrities on Twitter who we thought might be posting wedding updates, which pretty much resulted in us refreshing Kim Kardashian’s page too many times to keep count.
It was sort of like a sick, uncontrollable, 48-hour virus of obsession.
As we were getting in bed last night, I remembered that it had been a whole two hours since either one of us got on Twitter to see how the wedding was going, so I grabbed my computer and go, “Oh, let’s see who updated last, the wedding is definitely over by now.”
The Boss rushed to the edge of the bed as I loaded sister Kim’s page.
I read her latest tweet last night out loud:
“Tonight was one of the best nights of my life! Khloe & Lamar’s wedding was a night to remember! I love u both so much!”
To which The Boss responded:
“Oh, YOU love Lamar? You’ve known him for what, SIX WEEKS? You don’t even know him. I LOVE LAMAR ODOM. I LOVE HIM MORE THAN KHLOE DOES!”
I love a man who’s so very loyal to his team.

New poll. Please vote!
(Choose all applicable answers)
UPDATE: Please note that when voting choose answers that are only applicable to you. Please do not vote if there is an answer that you do not feel best describes you, or the way you feel, as we are trying to keep these polls as honest and accurate as possible. There will be polls where everyone feels like something applies to them, and there will be polls where you might not “qualify” (i.e. we already ran two polls specifically for Muslims, and I imagine any reader who is not Muslim most likely did not participate.)
I’m addressing this because a few people have contacted me regarding this issue, and I see a similar conversation happening in the comments section. Part of the polling process is to run a number of polls over time to get an honest response from readers, and if you don’t feel like you agree with the answers today, there might be a poll tomorrow, or later in the week that you will be able to answer honestly.
I really appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm to participate in these polls (couldn’t do it without you!) but please do not choose an answer that you do not agree with just because you want to vote, as such votes will dilute the accuracy of our findings.
Thank you!

kevin went to school with lamar!!
and…. my jaw dropped when i saw this was the most voted option:
Has no sympathy for alcoholics
seriously?
have you attempted to watch that E! show with khloe and kourtney? i tried for 5 minutes and could literally feel myself get dumber.
it’s like why do i care? and why is this important to the world.
anyways i hope they are happy.
and i agree with lindsay, people are super tough on this vote…geez.
About today’s poll – there’s no box for me to tick! LOL..that might also explain all the “Has no sympathy” voting that’s going on – its the only box left for you to choose if you have no experience of alcoholics/alcoholism. I almost ticked it just cos it was the last one, then caught myself. Alcoholism is an addiction and I do have some sympathy, so can I have a box too please?!
I agree with the take on why people might be clicking ‘no sympathy’ in the poll. Since my family’s not Muslim, I have family members who drink, and a few of them have drinking problems. One of these people has been through a lot recently- if you can’t sympathize with “alcoholics,” try sympathizing with actual people who drink in part because they have depression or other mental health issues.
Okay, off my soapbox.
I’m disappointed with the poll results too. Alcoholism is an addiction and a way to deal with mental and emotional issues for some people.
)
There are different types of addiction. There are many people (muslims included) that use food instead of alcohol to deal with their emotional issues.
I hope Clare is right in regards to people clicking on “no sympathy” for lack of options..
Good for them, I think they look cute together!
I personally dislike the term sympathy, since it is almost always assosiated with pity. The last thing an alcholic needs is pity from anyone. I would much rather be empathetic to an alcholic and try my best to find the help they need.
I think the poll needs more options so it would be more accurate.
Y’all read my mind!!
There’s definitely an option missing! I have empathy for alcoholics, or any addict – there’s always an underlying reason or trigger that leads to addiction forming habits (wait – did that make any sense?!)
I used to judge people harshly and quickly, thankfully I grew up! These days I remind myself that I can’t know what’s truly in someone’s heart.
So in short I’m a rainbows, kittens and dandelions person.
As for the khloe and lamar wedding, I don’t see what the fuss is about. People elope at the drop of a hat, maybe it’s because they chose to have a ‘wedding’ at short notice? Regardless, I’m thrilled to say that I haven’t the foggiest about either character.
i dont know whos more funny u or ur hubby hehe
I don’t have sympathy for alcoholics. I believe you can make a choice of whether to start drinking or not. And you have a choice to stop. I know, it’s not easy to just quit something that has taken control over your life, but if you REALLY want to make a change, you can.
I’m not judging the people, who drink, I’m just judging their action. That’s what Islam teaches you: judge the haram acts, not the people.
OMG, thats too funny, my husband has also been mentioning the Khloe and Lamar wedding i was like are you for real…he wasnt impressed either about why they were getting married though i don’t think hes obessed:P
i don’t want to be a party pooper, but i’m pretty sure that your poll is kind of inherently biased. I love your blog and read it daily, and the same goes for the people that vote in your polls.
what im trying to say is that your target audience is “teenage-20 something muslims in america”, when you are actually getting “people who read your blog”
“people who read your blog” is not representative of your population because it is a response bias. we read that you have a poll and we want to do what we can to help you out by answering honestly.
but what about those muslim teens who don’t read blogs (or read, period) and are drinking a six-pack of coors behind a dumpster as we speak.
basically, the only way you can get an ACCURATE response to your questions is if you did a random sampling
im really sorry if this comment seemed at all snooty or mean in any way. that is not my intention, i just want to help a fellow sister out.
Salam!
oh and you really should see “I love you man” with The Boss. I think you would enjoy it.
I was thinking the same as Inesa. I’m not sure what you are using the results for, but I would imagine that most of your readers fit a certain age group and profile of females. Depending on what you are doing this for, you would need a more random sampling for accurate results.
