Thanks, Victor. We should do lunch.

I’m in Cali, ya’ll!

I can’t stay for long, we don’t have Internet, so I’m just using Victor’s connection for a few minutes so I can post.

Who’s Victor, you ask?
I don’t know.
But I’m guessing he’s someone who lives close by, and was dumb nice enough to leave his Internet connection unsecured so I could use it.

I had some photos I wanted to share with you since guys, but Victor’s connection just went from Good to Very Low, and it looks like I won’t be able to upload anything, which makes me really angry at Victor, so after I post this I’m going to go find him and let him know that he will totally be paying for lunch.

The Internet guy is coming on Thursday to set us up, so I’ll be up and running as usual after that. In the mean time, posting will be light here over the next few days (unless Victor gets his act together) so try to find something fun to keep yourselves entertained.

Happy Monday!

Alhamdulillah, I’m glad you had a safe trip! How’s LA so far, do you like it?

I remember when my family and I relocated to another part of the city we lived in. My younger sister and I would use our poor neighbors internet connection (whatever our laptops picked up) … until we installed our own a week later lol! Just don’t over use it … so he doesn’t freak out when the internet bill comes in! :P

I’m glad you made it there. You’ll have to give tips on how to pack your life in 2 bags. I’m having to do it and its super hard!!!

And as for people who don’t lock their wireless, I thank God for them. it was the only way to get internet in so many places I went.

    God Bless them!

Okay I apologize times a million if this brings you any problems at all… but I recently posted on a post over at a website/blog called the Frisky where a bunch of women were posting naive/ignorant comments saying that all women who wear hijab are brainwashed and mindless and defending Sarkozy recent proposal to ban burqas in Frace.(http://www.thefrisky.com/site/post/246-sarkozy-says-burqas-arent-welcome-in-france/)

but I linked them to your blog in a hope to educate them on hijab and modest dress and how Muslim women are not oppressed and such. I hope you don’t mind and again I am sorry and apologize times a million if this brings you any problems.

Hi Arielle. I feel honored that you thought to link to my Web site as a means for people to understand Muslims better. I’m always open to new readers, even when they don’t agree with my (always right) point of view;) I’m always happy to meet people that are open to learning the truth behind other people’s beliefs. Bravo, and thanks again!

Welcome to Cali! I moved out here from VA eons ago the day after my wedding and my father-in-law was kind enough to take a picture of the first palm tree I saw – right outside Long Beach Airport. I also remember expecting scenery akin to that on Beverly Hills 90210 :)

    Arielle:

As much as I agree with you regarding your views on Sarkozy’s remarks about Hijab, I don’t think this is the best site to learn what Hijab is all about. Hijab is much more than just covering your hair. Islam teaches you honesty, humbleness and modesty; virtues that are so much lacking in some of the posts by the author of this blog. Take for instant, use of someone else’s internet connection; that amounts to stealing. Is that what your religion teaches you? Touting the Islamic cause is not easy; there is a lot of responsibility that goes with it. This site seems to make a mockery of everything Islamic.

  17. Sarah on June 23rd, 2009 10:29 pm

Pretty good post. I just found your site and wanted to say
that I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts. Anyway
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

  18. Sally on June 23rd, 2009 10:32 pm

wow, sharing/using someone else’s UNSECURED wireless connection, on a temporary basis, amounts to stealing?
I’d say it’s more like..borrowing. Actually, not even ..because you are not even taking it away from them! :) You are just sharing.
Either way, sharing and borrowing are taught by Islam ;)

Jokes aside, I think most of the author’s writing contains sarcasm and humour about her own life. Once one realizes this, one can see that it doesn’t necessarily say anything about her honesty or humbleness or her mocking of Islam.

“Man in the early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is regressive back to ancient times” - Nobel laureate, Tawakul Karman, in response to journalists who said her hijab was not proportionate with her level of intellect and education.
