The Original Sabrina

THERE’S NO BEAUTY LIKE THE WOMEN FROM THE 1950s.

I got this Audrey Hepburn clock from CB2, and though they no longer carry this item, I found the exact same one here. (And another really nice one here).

I love the style and swagger of the women from the 1950s — it’s one of my favorite time periods for Hollywood glitz and glamor. And believe it or not, The Boss loves is unusually attached to this clock, too. It used to hang in our bedroom, and when I moved it into the set of The Closet, the poor guy was totally bummed. It took him a few days to come to terms with the fact that Audrey was no longer going to watch us while we slept, but I think overall, he’s doing better now.

Unfortunately, the kind of subtle beauty that women like Audrey Hepburn had a few generations ago is no longer valued today. While walking through a store with Little BFF one afternoon, I saw a giant poster of this doe-eyed beauty and said, “Oh, look! Isn’t she pretty?”

“Ohhh, yeah!” Little BFF said, totally enthused.

Then a pause.

“Uhh, is she a boy?”

Yeah kid, SHE’S a boy.

    Lol! Is she a boy!

But you’re right, classical beauty is no longer appreciated, and that’s sad.

Ohh audrey! Breakfast at Tiffany’s! Those graceful slender arms! Oh yeah, women of the 40′s and 50′s have got nothing on the Britneys of today. Watch this one movie if you haven’t already called ‘Two for the Road’. It shows how a couple’s love changes over the course of 12 years, the ups and downs of marriage and how their relationship evolves with life, kids…affairs.. Sooo interesting! Especially for newly married couple like yourself. I’d say make it an at-home-Friday-movie-and-popcorn night! Also, I’m a fan of another famous Hepburn- Katherine of course!
