Changes Galore

To my readers,

Welcome to my new Web page.
I wanted to take you through some of the changes made to the site, and tell you a little bit about why those changes were made.

I’m an advocate for the “less is more” idea, but the previous site was like a pretty girl who could use a little mascara.
Visually, I wanted to add more color, and clean up the clutter that was in the sidebar.
To better highlight the pages on this site, i.e. “About This Site,” “The Closet,” and the “FAQs,” I thought it was more fitting to have them run across a menu bar, which is much easier to navigate.
You’ll also notice that I’ve condensed all the contact information you need into one page titled “Contact.” This was done so readers could more easily send e-mails to the appropriate sections of this site without having to bounce around to different contact pages.

A new addition to this site is the monthly banner feature floating just above the logo.
The inspiration for this idea came from various magazine mastheads, Google’s idea of making small changes to their logo for special days throughout the year, some news Web sites, and a huge poster for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” which I saw hanging on a building in D.C.

The idea to change the banner monthly came from another blog I read, where the author does a great job of changing her mastheads and archiving them for her readers.
Eventually, I might add a separate page so readers can browse through previous banners, but for now, I’m hoping all of you have a photographic memory so I don’t have to do all the extra work.

Previously, this site lacked the prominence of a homepage link. I’m very happy to say that – that annoying little kink has been fixed. In addition to the “Home” link in the menu bar, the header, which includes the logo and the banner, is now permanently linked to the homepage.
I’ve also added an RSS feed after receiving feedback from readers, and I hope lots of you will subscribe to this site, making it easier for everyone to read new entries as they are posted.

Finally, all the media elements you’ll find throughout this site, such as photographs and videos, have been reduced in virtual size to make for faster load times.

The most drastic changes seem to be done for now, although I’ll be making little tweaks here and there in the coming weeks. And as with any change, I know it’s sometimes hard to acclimate yourself to something new. In fact, I was still drying The Boss’s tears this morning after ESPN.com unveiled its new site design last night.

I feel confident that these changes will make for a more comfortable experience each time you visit this site, but I’d still like to hear your feedback. Feel free to post a comment, or shoot an e-mail to Sabrina@SliceofLemon.com.

Happy Reading!

“Man in the early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is regressive back to ancient times” - Nobel laureate, Tawakul Karman, in response to journalists who said her hijab was not proportionate with her level of intellect and education.
