No White In Sight

I’m starting to get a little (okay, insanely) jealous of everyone posting pictures on their blogs of all the snow that has fallen where they live.
I want snow, too. I love snow.
I’m a winter baby –  I didn’t even know I had feet until April of ’83!

My sister’s fiancée sent pictures of all the snow they got in Michigan, and the next day, The Boss’s mom said they got so much snow it was hard to keep your eyes open outside.
And then I was like, dammit! Because World, I look so cute with sunglasses on in the winter.

The Boss really likes the snow too, but he loves the warmth of late spring/early summer.
He grew up in New England, so he appreciates that December in Northern Virginia doesn’t mean blizzards and 12-degree weather.

But some of us want to see that White cranked out of the sky, because by this time last year, we’d already had our first snowfall.
I just want to wake up one morning and see every yard, tree and rooftop smothered in a blanket of white.

This morning, hopeful my wish had come true, I ran to the window to see if there was enough snow on the ground for me to cry a happy tear, and then muscle up a snowball big enough to hit our neighbor’s cat.

I lifted the blinds and felt the cold window. The wind was howling and the leaves were blowing.
Today was gonna be the day — I could feel it!
Since I have an incredible God-given talent, which gives me the ability to smell the snow before it falls, I ran outside and threw open the door.
I flared my nostrils in preparation for a deep inhale…

Heat. Hot wind. Hot air. Humidity.

I couldn’t believe it — 65 degrees, and not a snowflake in sight.

Just as I let go of the door to walk back into the house, I saw a man in shorts and a T-shirt running down the street with his dog.

I held my hands out in front of me, and then clasped my forehead as I let out a slow, melodramatic “NOOOOO!”
And then I went to the kitchen to make breakfast.

A few minutes later, The Boss came downstairs in his (favorite) robe (that I got him) (which he never takes off) and threw open the front door.

“Wow,” he said, with a huge smile on his face. “What a beautiful day!”
