Skip over that little black dress this holiday season, and gear up for your next holiday party with some sparkle and shine!

Going Out With the Office Crowd:

Michelle was wearing:

Dress: Elizabeth and James Aurora Dress available at Shopbop.com

Jacket: We got really lucky with this find — a Michael Kors jacket from T.J. Maxx. But thankfully, our design team also found this totally fabulous ADAM silver metallic ‘O’ cropped jacket at Bluefly.com.

Shoes: Lustra D’Orsay Pumps, Sigerson Morrison for Target

Hijab: Classic Wrap, Jones New York.

Style Tip: When putting together an outfit with basic colors like black and white, it’s best to add a small accessory with some color. It breaks up the pattern and adds that “something extra,” which really completes the look.

Michelle was wearing these earrings from the “Native Earth” collection, L’s Custom Jewelry.

For a Night Out With Friends:

Michelle was wearing:

Dress: Foley + Corninna Beaded Butterfly Boat Neck Dress available at Shopbop.com

Purse: Anya Hindmarch for Target, Small Flap Bag

Shoes: L.A.M.B. Hanah Open Toe Mary Jane Pump available at Shopbop.com

Hijab: Merona Wrap, Target

Style Tip: Don’t be afraid to add a few colored accessories to an outfit like this, just remember to leave your necklaces at home. Small earrings and a bracelet (or two) are most fitting here and avoiding a necklace will keep the outfit from looking too busy.

Earrings and bracelet from the “Green With Envy” collection, L’s Custom Jewelry.

Below, “Star Struck” bracelet from the “You Rock My World” collection, L’s Custom Jewelry.

Designers at The Closet don’t mind turning to department stores, the Web, or even flea markets to find the perfect shoes and clothes, but when it comes to our accessories, we’re happiest working with local artists. That’s not to say we can’t find beautiful earrings at Bloomies, it’s just that we know how hard small business owners work, and we’re proud to support them.

Each piece of jewelry featured in today’s episode was handmade by L’s Custom Jewelry.

Sabrina’s Wardrobe:

I got my trousers from BCBG like two seasons, ago and I love them! Unfortunately, they don’t have them in white anymore, but they have the exact same style (in a darker color) here. (And they’re on sale!)
Every winter, I stock up on these turtlenecks from Nordstrom. They’re in the junior’s department, and for only $12 each, I usually pick up two or three. They’re great for layering under sweaters and dresses, or even under a top with three-quarter length sleeves, like the one I have on.
Speaking of, I grabbed that top off a rack at T.J. Maxx! Cute, huh?
My hijab is from H&M, my earrings are from a little shop at an airport I was at a few years ago, and the two red bracelets came out of a drawer while I was cleaning.
Sorry there’s no description on my shoes, I’m most comfortable filming barefoot.

XOXO
Sabrina

So good! I love it! And great tips, looove all the fabrics — shiny and sheen and fabrics with some weight always make me feel like going to a holiday party :-)

Asalamualaykum Sabrina! You are a sister after my own heart! :-) I loved the first video that you made for the Washington Post and I featured it on my site way back when. Two sisters, Maryam and Suroor, have been messaging me about your new videos and I am so impressed by them. I’ve been working towards creating some of my own… It looks like a lot of work… But I’m sure that it’s a lot of fun too… Keep it up sister! :-)

“Man in the early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is regressive back to ancient times” - Nobel laureate, Tawakul Karman, in response to journalists who said her hijab was not proportionate with her level of intellect and education.
