A Blast from the Animated Past

Whenever the weather changes it seems like everyone gets sick. Your co-workers walk around with a little red spot on the tips of their noses, tissue boxes show up on everyone’s desk and even the nastiest people you work with, that never wash their hands after they use the bathroom, are scrubbing and splashing at the sinks.
On a related note, if you know someone doesn’t wash their hands after they use the bathroom and then one day you have a bag of popcorn and you offer it to everyone, do you offer it to that person too? Cuz seriously man, I SAW you use the bathroom and then leave WITHOUT washing your hands!

Suddenly everyone’s wiping down the phones and their computers and keyboards and desks and office chairs – since when could you catch a cold from someone’s butt germs?
Oh, I know. Maybe if they put their grimy little hands IN YOUR BAG OF POPCORN!

I woke up the other morning with a bit of a sore throat – the first sign that a cold will soon follow. I bought a gallon of OJ and increased my caloric intake in hopes to fight it off. I even popped some pills before I headed out the door.

When I came home, The Boss was sprawled out on the couch with a headache and all kinds of junk in his sinuses.
Oops.

Luckily the weekend was around the corner so it was a good time to rest – except for the fact that I had to work and then we had three social lunches/dinners that we were invited to.
We apologetically asked to be excused from the weekend festivities and bummed around on the couch all weekend with SportsCenter on mute, laptops near by, and a tub of chocolate chip cookies to help ease the pain.

As we lay sickly on the couch (and mind you I do recognize that we were being a little mellow dramatic) we did what anyone who’s bored would do.
We got on YouTube.

I don’t remember whose idea it was but we started looking for theme songs to cartoons that we grew up with: Inspector Gadget, Fraggle Rock, David the Gnome, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghost Busters, Tail Spin, Animaniacs, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers – oh, the list goes on…and on…and ON.

I suddenly felt healthy and strong and wanted to go out and buy a tie-dyed pair of adult onesies and drink chocolate milk from a baby bottle.

We must have searched for an hour before we called it quits.
For the rest of the weekend we walked around the house with a hop in our step humming classic intros to ‘90s favorites.

For your viewing pleasure, and in honor of some of the greatest cartoons that ever existed, I give you this –
My favorite cartoon of all time!

We should have a Duck Tales marathon one night… I’m pretty sure Josie has a season or two on DVD…….Yes, that means that he purchased a cartoon as an adult! LOL at least we can benefit!

Um, so now I have the “Duck Tales” song in my head and will be singing it ALL week.

Talking about shows from the past, I just YouTube’d Nick’s old, “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”. Have you ever seen that show? So weird going back in time.

And one more thing. Were the two of you sick when I was over on Sat? Sab? Just kidding. I don’t care. Well, I do but I don’t. OK bye!

OMG! Aman and I did the same thing last week! Only we You Tube’d TGIF sitcoms from the 90′s…Perfect Strangers, Family Matters, Full House, Step by Step… plus Saved by the Bell and Gilligan’s island! Remember how Dad used to make us highlight the TV guide for our weekly quota and those were the only shows we were allowed to watch that week? Oh how I looked forward to Fridays for the two hour TGIF bit. Ahhh, memories.

Leah, We didn’t have cable but I snuck “Are you afraid of the dark” when we’d go to family parties. Those shows were so scary!

“Man in the early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is regressive back to ancient times” - Nobel laureate, Tawakul Karman, in response to journalists who said her hijab was not proportionate with her level of intellect and education.
